Chinese e-tailer AliExpress, a subsidiary of Alibaba, is deploying 650 delivery lockers in France. The first 80 lockers have been installed in Paris, via the Cainiao network, the logistics service of the Alibaba group.
Other lockers are planned in Lyon, Lille and Bordeaux, installed "through logistics operators". This network of lockers is intended to complement the 5,000 collection points of Relais Colis, a partner since April 2019, in particular (the network claiming 15,000 collection points).
In Spain, Cainiao also announces 600 lockers by the end of the year. Again, this network is intended to complement the 2,700 touch points of its local partner since 2019, Celeritas.
Delivering ever faster
Aliexpress relies on a new Alibaba hub at Liege airport and local partner warehouses in France and neighboring countries (both operated by Cainiao). AliExpress ensures delivery within 3 days for products already stored in Europe.
In addition, AliExpress is working on combined delivery, again with Cainiao, in France and Spain. The principle is to combine items from different stores into a single package, in order to reduce delivery times with the same shipping cost and a lower environmental impact.
